The Freedom of Information Law (“FOIL”), Article 6 (Section 84-90), of the NYS Public Officers Law, provides the public right to access to records maintained by government agencies with certain exceptions.

The policy of the Police Department is to adhere to the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Article 6, New York State Public Officers Law. The public, individually and collectively, should have access to the records of the government. All records are subject to disclosure unless they are covered by specific exemptions in statute.
